Check-up and Clean
​It is recommended that a check-up and clean be done once every 6 to 12 months. During this appointment the dentist will check the condition of your teeth, gums, and oral soft tissues. They will look for any signs or symptoms of things such as decay, gingivitis, or abnormalities in the appearance of the soft tissues and assess your overall dental health.

Professional cleaning by a dentist involves the removal of plaque and tartar from the tooth structure, both above and below the gum line. This includes the removal of stains from the tooth surface using ultrasonic cleaners and rotary polisher, followed by the application of a fluoride gel to promote remineralization.

​X-Rays
​Small intraoral radiographs (x-rays) are recommended every 2 to 3 years during your regular check-up appointment to enable the dentist to assess the condition of tooth surfaces and bone that are not clinically visible to the eye.

This enables early detection of dental disease before it reaches a point where treatment becomes more invasive and costly. In some instances it may be recommended that further radiographs showing oral structures from a different angle may be required to make a more complete diagnosis.

​Fissure Sealants
​Fissure sealants are a protective coating that can be placed on the biting surfaces of permanent molar teeth. It is placed relatively soon after eruption of the 6 and 12 year old molars, to reduce the amount of food and plaque from sticking to the tops of the teeth and causing decay.
